MAIN PROGRAMME

9:00
THE THREE HANDY SNOUTS (5+)
Theatre Splinter (SK)
Bratislava puppet theatre – Studio

The sun is warm, a gentle breeze is blowing over the pigs’ snouts and the smell of grilled vegetables is in the air. But it’s time to pull our tails out of the native mud and stand on our own little feet. The three pink-tanned brothers will each take a different path. “Bang, clang, wham, click” and the houses are standing. But the wolf’s teeth are sharp and the tin lungs are puffing. A deep breath, then a strong gale… and the houses are gone, just like that! The wolf’s saliva is running and the piglets are shaking with fear.

The Three handy snouts were created as an INTERSTECTION of puppet theatre and sound improvisation.

Dramatization, direction, set, puppets, acting: Lukáš Tandara

DOG’S LIFE (15+)
Teatro MATITA
Bratislava puppet theatre – Studio

The production plays with the dog’s view of space, sounds, people and society. A miniature about the life of a puppy as Čapek sees it, and also about the dog’s perspective as Solce understands it. A dog’s life for Dašenka is when someone steps on her tail; in the days before World War II, it was a dog’s life for those who stood up to the growing power of ideology. The American president as a teddy bear, the Holocaust wrapped into a tragicomic kangaroo. The object theatre is enhanced by the improvised creation of music from random sounds. The voice of Čapek’s friend Jan Masaryk, reporting from exile, is interspersed with Nazi mass-media cues. The viewer witnesses the contrast between the lyrical attitude towards the small and naive and the clamour of the media, which imposes its dogmas again and again in the name of truth. From the dog’s point of view, human life is a tragedy that can only be solved by one doctor – Death.

The production is presented with the support of the City of Koper, Slovenia.

Author, set, cast: Matija Solce

Matija Solce

Musician, puppeteer, actor and director, professor, festival organizer and activist. In his work, he closely links music and theatre, which is why his concerts often turn into interactive theatre performances or his puppet shows become musical compositions. With an accordion and a suitcase full of puppets, he has travelled all over the world, experiencing extreme places such as prisons, ashrams, private bedrooms and the great halls of international festivals. The number of projects, performances, festivals and awards he has won cannot be counted. He has a unique authorial expression on the border between tradition and modernity, in which the puppetry tradition is highlighted by surprisingly fresh transformations with a touch of popular culture.
