KOMODO (4+)
LAMPION theatre (CZ)
Bratislava puppet theatre – Main stage
Komodo is the story of Peter – a young boy who is fascinated by everything to do with dragons. That’s why his parents take him on a journey to Indonesia, where the largest lizard in the world – the Komodo dragon – lives on the island of Komodo. In Indonesia, however, everything is a little different. There are masses of tourists everywhere, and so the experience is in danger of being nowhere near the adventure they wanted. Childhood dreams are intertwined with reality and with the wild and green jungle. Komodo is a production in which young viewers are included in the story. The children physically participate in all the adventures and help Peter make his dreams come true.
In Komodo we find the INTERSECTIONS of puppet theatre and children’s play.
The production won the Jan Borna Award at the Dítě v Dlouhé 2022 festival.

WE ARE THE POWER (BANISHING THE DICTATOR BY PUSSY RIOT)
BOCA LOCA LAB A BRNO CONTEMPORARY ORCHESTRA (CZ)
Bratislavské bábkové divadlo – Sála
In 2012, the prayer “Mother of God, banish Putin!” was chanted in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, with which the girl group Pussy Riot protested against Putin’s return to the presidency and the close contacts between the Orthodox Church leadership and the state power. The girls were arrested and, in a rigged trial, two of them were convicted. They served their sentences in the cruellest prison camps in Siberia. Their warnings about Putin seem prophetic today, and their courage is exceptionally inspiring, especially in our time.
In We are the power we hear INTERSECTIONS of spoken word, song and music.
Libretto by Jiří Adámek Austerlitz, based on Nadezhda Tolokonnikova’s book How to Make a Revolution
Vocalists: Kateřina Císařová, Vendula Holičková and Bára Mišíková
Music: Jiří Adámek and Brno Contemporary orchestra
Musical arrangement and conductor: Pavel Šnajdr
Directed by: Jiří Adámek Austerlitz
Jiří Adámek Austerlitz
He has created an original type of “sonic” theatre in which he mixes musically composed structure, stylized acting and vocal technique at the border between words and singing. As a librettist and director, he collaborates on music-theatre compositions, staged concerts, new operas, experimental and site-specific projects in a number of theatres (Studio of Heroes, Hadivadlo, New Stage of the National Theatre in Prague, Minor Theatre…). He has developed a specific approach to language and speech, especially with his theatre group Boca Loca Lab. He made his way to the Bratislava Puppet Theatre as the author of the libretto and director of the production Hugo’s World. He has won several important awards for his projects: the Music Theatre Now! award in Germany, the Original Theatre Form Award in Toruń, the Main Prize at the Bielsko-Biala Festival, the Divadelní noviny Award, the Grand Prix Nova in Romania and the Prix Bohemia.

Buchty a loutky (CZ)
Bratislava puppet theatre – Studio
Obsolete heroes with nothing left to prove. They’re just trying to survive, but when it’s really worth it, they’re capable of any impossible mission.
The Expendables, the American action film in which director Sylvester Stallone has assembled an amazing cast of aging action movie stars from the 80s and 90s, is taken to pieces by the ensemble of Buchty a Loutky. In the film, a group of assassins arrive on the island of Vilena to take out a dangerous dictator. The mission gets complicated, but there are the Expendables – men who can be sacrificed for the benefit of the military operation. In this theatrical variation of the well-known film, you’ll find a parody of machismo, Disney-esque over-sweetened lyrical scenes or pop culture allusions, i.e., Buchty a Loutky with all that goes with it.
The Expendables use the INTERSECTIONS of traditional puppets and film-realistic stories.
Directed by: Radek Beran and Buchty a Loutky
Screenplay: Buchty a loutky
Music: Vít Brukner
Puppets : Old Masters
Set design: Buchty a Loutky
Starring: Marek Bečka, Vit Brukner, Radek Beran

Bára and Honza met at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications in Zlín. Bára studied animation, Honza studied spatial design. In their “working time” they work in graphics, illustration and animation. They work on the computer, each of their projects is different and they meet inspiring people in areas they would not normally access. But it’s a virtual world, they send the finished project over the internet and that’s basically the end of it. To create a wood puppet, for example, paint it and then witness the immediate reaction of a wider audience is a huge experience. That’s why more and more people are starting to create artistic spatial objects – attractions for the amusement of themselves, their children, their friends and gradually the public as well.

Filip Hajduk – juggler, clown, stilt walker and especially professional comedian. In his performances he juggles and balances various objects (bottles, caps, chairs, benches) on his nose, chin, or ear, even his elbow and tongue! His show is lively, surprising, full of witty improvisation, commentary and audience interaction. Philip entertains children, adults, adolescents, pensioners, dogs, cats and the occasional policeman. Simply all those who want to have fun… Even those who are just sitting or lying around from fatigue. He can do stunts that no other entertainer can do. His twenty-minute performances last at least three-quarters of an hour!

KAUKLIAR is a professional creative group of clever and cheerful people, artists, jugglers, actors, stilt walkers – in a word – KAUKLIARS. They are happy to perform their shows and charge their audience with positive energy. Filip entered the Bratislava Puppet Theatre during the creation of the production Mowgli, where he taught the actors juggling tricks.

POOR PUPPETEER
Buchty a loutky (CZ)
Bratislava puppet theatre – Workshed
Putting a puppeteer in front of an audience, letting him improvise while limiting him by the number of puppetry means, is an amazing adrenaline rush. The poor puppeteer has lost everything, even his sight. All he has left are the last three puppets and one double-sided backdrop. With this, he can act out any fairy tale, any story, on demand. In a puppet show based on improvisation, there is everything – tension, humour, and a statement that is not to be taken lightly. Improvisation is one of the key principles of the independent theatre of Buchty a Loutky.
The concept, performs: Marek Bečka
Marek Bečka
Actor, director and teacher. He is an unmistakable personality of Czech puppet theatre. The ensemble Buchty a Loutky, which he founded with his classmates in 1991, has helped to overturn many puppetry conventions, and has introduced film techniques and new themes into theatrical production practice. Through his constant experimentation, he became synonymous with puppetry’s postmodernism. Marek Bečka has had several successful productions as a director as well as theatre awards at home and abroad. We are glad that he was also part of the Bratislava Puppet Theatre as co-author and co-director of the production Popolvár.
